Synopsis

A middle-aged academic, once an anti-apartheid activist, embarks on an unadmitted hopeful pursuit of the possibilities of his own racial idenity-in the New South Africa, to be found in his great-grandfather's fortune-hunting interlude living rough on diamond diggings far from his young wife in London. "Dreaming of the Dead" wittily conjures up a lunch in a New York Chinese restaurant, where Susan Sontag and Edward Said return in surprising new avatars as guests in the dream of a loving friend.
